In this type of quilting, punching a thread through a piece of woven material does the design on the quilt. This helps in creating a surface of thread loops at the front top of the fabric, which looks quite similar to a carpet pile. The needle used for the stitch is a hollow one with the help of which you can create a raised ornamental design.

You don’t need to tie or knot in case of punch embroidery. The design is durable and you can even wash the quilt in a machine. For punch needle embroidery, you can make use of multiple threads and the designs come in a variety of styles. These quilts are thin and small, and thus they can be packed and put inside bags to be carried along while traveling. Thus, whenever you get the time just sit and start stitching.

 

Some punch needle tips

• You must have the fabric in a hoop
• The needle should be perpendicular to the fabric and when you are creating the loops, you should hold the fabric up and then insert the needle
• The thread which comes out of the handle should be draped at the back of your hand in which you are holding the needle
• Now start stitching. Punch back and punch forth, side to side and up and down. While you stitch you should leave some blank space in between the rows. Never put the stitches close to each other because if you do so then the quilt will become bumpy and heavy.
• After finishing with one row start another using a different thread color and stitch following the same pattern.
